We’ve tried several options of securing Burt in the car over the years, but none seemed to fit the bill perfectly—until we were loaned the PetSafe Car Booster Seat for Dogs. We just had to buy our own!

As someone who’s both dyslexic and dyspraxic I found the assembly instructions a bit daunting. The pieces seemed all bent and stiff, and figuring out how they fit together was like solving a tricky puzzle.
Luckily, a dear friend came to my rescue and helped put it together.
Which was just as well!

It was clear how well-designed the booster seat is once my friend put it together. I couldn’t wait for Burt to test it out!

So, how does Burtie feel about his new car seat?

The elevated position allows Burtie to see out of the car windows. You know Burt just loves to look where he is going as we travel on our adventures!
Burtie used to be quite the restless passenger, but now he stands, sits or lies happily in his cozy booster seat, enjoying the sights. I even added an extra cushion and one of his blankets to make it extra comfy for him!
From a safe dog transportation perspective, this booster seat has been a game-changer. Burtie is securely restrained, which not only keeps him safe but also prevents any distractions while I’m driving.
This dog booster seat sits firmly on the car seat rather than being suspended from the headrest like some car booster seats for small dogs. The rigid box structure is secured using the car seat belt. The booster seat doesn’t slide when braking or turning corners like a cushion does adding to its stability and security.
Not to mention, the dog box (as I call it) has been brilliant when Burt just wants some time out when we are on our adventures. It’s a safe place for him to rest in the car, I can clip him in and leave the door or window open with no worries about him unexpectedly escaping!

Installation and Usage
Installing the PetSafe Solvit Car Booster Seat is quite straightforward once you get the hang of it. The seat attaches securely to your car seat using the seat belt, ensuring it stays in place throughout the journey.
The car booster seat for dogs is also compatible with different car models and seat variations. The box is simply secured with the vehicle seat belt making it a great portable dog car seat choice for dog owners.
Pros and Cons of the PetSafe Solvit Car Booster Seat
Every product has its strengths and potential drawbacks, so let’s take a quick look at the pros and cons of this booster seat:
Pros:
- Burtie can enjoy the scenery and watch out of the windows as we drive.
- Secure restraint that clips onto the dog harness.
- Very sturdy construction that can be used on any seat with a seat belt.
- Easy to clean! The liner can be easily removed and washed. The cushion provided has a waterproof side too.
- Simple to install and remove. The booster seat frame is secured by the vehicle seat belt.
- Spacious interior for a small dog with plenty of room to add a cushion or blanket for extra comfort.
Cons:
- Assembly was tricky for me. I have dispraxia and dyslexia and just couldn’t figure out how to slot the pieces together. A friend put the booster seat frame together for me.
- The carabiner connection is quite stiff and awkward. With my psoriatic arthritis, it was sometimes difficult to unlatch the caribiner from the harness depending on Burts position.
- The belt attachment is quite short and needed some adjustment. Added to the awkward caribiner, it could be very difficult for me to lean over and unlatch Burt.
- I didn’t think much of the waterproof cushion that came with the booster seat. Burt likes his comfort – an extra cushion or folded blankets are needed!
- While the booster seat is designed for small dogs, the actual frame is quite big. It takes up a whole adult seat. It’s something to bare in mind if you plan on using the booster seat on the back seat and have passengers.
Is the PetSafe Car Booster Seat for Dogs worth the money?
In conclusion, the PetSafe Solvit Car Booster Seat has become an essential part of our travel kit. Burtie loves it, and it gives me peace of mind knowing he’s safe and comfortable.
The PetSafe Car Booster Seat for dogs is definitely worth the money. We can’t imagine our road trips and Jack Russell Adventures without it now!
